#74 How to Make More, Sell More, and Get Noticed This Year
Think back to the last time you sold at a jewelry show. What do you do when someone comes up to your booth?
Did you hide?
I know you didn’t … but I’ve totally seen designers do that.
I never understand that reaction because the whole point of doing a show is to get noticed, sell, and make money! If you’re not doing that, then what are you doing?
… No, munching on artisanal snacks from other vendors doesn’t count. (I’ve been to Brooklyn, I’ve seen how that goes!)
It’s so important to rep your brand and sell like a pro whenever you have the opportunity.
Your next client can pop up anywhere. I was at a dinner party at a friend’s and met a guy that I wound up creating a custom engagement ring for.
I didn’t duck under the table when he asked about my jewelry. I just had a totally normal chat with him and showed him my website. So. Simple.
You can be the superstar who effortlessly sells, has her elevator pitch down, and never sounds cheesy or salesy.
In today’s episode, I tell you exactly how to do that!
So…let’s dive right in and get you ready for the spotlight.

Create an Emotional Connection
My best client, Liam, buys multiple pieces each year from me. He spends a lot of moolah, and I’m so lucky to have him.
But here’s the thing – it’s not just luck.
I’ve created an experience for him that connects on an emotional level. I genuinely care about his happiness and provide him with service he trusts. To boot, his wife loves my jewelry and treasures the OOAK pieces I make for her. His life is easier, and his wife is happy! Perfect match.
No matter how you sell – custom, collections, wholesale, online, at shows, you name it! – creating an emotional connection goes a long way.
And the way you make that connection is through communicating your message clearly. Think about what you want your biz to say, say it to the right customers, and you’re going to knock it out of the park.

Selling Like a Pro
There’s nothing worse than being “sold to” when you’re out shopping. It feels awkward and usually has you headed for the door as fast as you can.
This is just one reason why designers hate to sell. But a good sales person never makes you feel that way.
Think of selling as just a great conversation where you get to share your enthusiasm for your jewelry. When I sell, I’m just happy to have a nice talk with someone who likes my work. What’s hard about that?
Start the conversation by complimenting your client or asking a question like “I love your purse, where'd you get it?” Whatever feels natural.
That’s the key: Be natural. Be yourself.
You’ll be selling like nobody’s business in no time flat, and it will never feel awkward!
I mentioned our Jewelry Brand Makeover Bootcamp on today's show. It was amazing and I'm so sorry you missed out on this one.
But no worries! We do things like this a lot a Flourish & Thrive Academy.
If you’re really serious about leveling up this year, we have an amazing Facebook group you can join to connect with other designers!
It’s called The Jewelry Business Incubator
Get inside and you'll never miss a bootcamp!
I just realized this is the first podcast of 2017! Holy smokes, time flies.
It’s been over a year since I began recording Thrive By Design. I can’t believe how far we’ve come since then.
Thank you so much for tuning it and checking out our blog posts!
Happy New Year!
