Designer Spotlight: Rebecca Leonard
A brief story of what you do and why you do it.
I am an artisan jewelry designer and have real passion for beads and creating! Besides my online shop I sell to specialty boutiques and at artisan fairs and also specialize in bridal and formal jewelry with an arty flair.
Being creative is what keeps me going, without it life would be devoid of color.
How did you get into jewelry design?
I started making jewelry after I completed my studies at Massachusetts College of Art in marine illustration, and while working full time as an illustrator, I began making wire and bead creations for fun as a hobby. Soon I decided to sell a few of my pieces at a local artisan shop and Fuchsia Bloom Studio was born!
What makes your collection unique?
I search out rare and unusual glass and metal components and incorporate these with metalworked elements to create unique designs, and try to incorporate my love of color and nature and knowledge of design into each piece.
What are your inspirations?
There is an eclectic mix of styles in my shop – some pieces have an antique feel reflecting my interest in jewelry from the Medieval, Edwardian and Art Nouveau/Deco periods, some reflect my love of flowers, Celtic and mystical things and some have a funky, artsy vibe from my love of all things vintage!
How are you making a difference in your life?
I feel that my creativity creeps into all areas of my life, from decorating my home, to cooking imaginative meals, to planning a garden and to making fine art. My kids are used to constant movement and change in everything we do!
What's something unusual about you that makes you “you”?
I believe in a power greater than ourselves and that with that power all things are possible!I Like to carry an optimistic vibe into my work and all aspects of my life and I hope that my customers will get that feeling from my jewelry.
What's the biggest struggle in running your jewelry business like a business?
My biggest struggles would be to find the time to craft with all of the myriad distractions of being a single mom and all that entails, as well as keeping my sales and income consistent from month to month.
