#232 Your Money Story & How It’s Fueling or Stifling Your Success
What’s your money story?
When it comes to money, everyone has different stories they tell themselves, including you – though you may not even realize it.
Most people start out with negative money stories that take serious work to clear. They can be inherited from family, picked up in the media, established from experience, etc.
No matter where it started, fear around money always stems from some form of scarcity mindset and will only ever get in the way of your success.
Successful entrepreneurs put in the work to transform their money story into one that’s compatible with a growth mindset.
And that’s what we’re going to do today.
I’ve got a really powerful exercise for you. It will help you recognize your money story, identify where it comes from, and start working to transform it.
Let’s jump right in!
Step 1: Tell Your Money Story
Before changing anything, you have to recognize the stories you’re telling yourself now. Dig deep, and don’t hold back!
Some common ones include:
- “Money doesn’t grow on trees.”
- “Money is hard to make.”
- “There’s not enough money to go around.”
- “Artists can’t make a lot of money.”
- “If I spend money I will never make it back.”
Whip out a pen and paper and make a list of your own. Leave space next to each one for Step 2.
Step 2: Identify the Source of Your Story
Once you have a list of your own, it’s time to start identifying the source of your story.
How did you internalize these ideas about money? It could be that your story was passed down from your family, or developed during past experiences, or even picked up in media.
You can’t change these beliefs if you don’t acknowledge where they’re coming from and start working on them from the inside out.
If you’re struggling, give this week’s episode a listen. I list some questions that will help you get straight to the source.
Step 3: Set Goals to Change Your Story
This is where the hard work comes in.
You’ve been carrying your story with you for a long time – possibly all your life. It’s not going to disappear overnight.
But this work is really powerful if you commit to it. You are on your way to operating out of a place of abundance and removing the stigma around making money as an artist.
You are a thriving artist.
You deserve to be paid for your work.
You’ve got this.
This is only the beginning. Listen to the full episode above to dive deep into your money story and the impact it has on your biz.
See you in the next decade, m’dear!
