Designer Spotlight: Christina Torchia
A brief story of what you do and why you do it.
I use my jewelry design as an outlet. I have been crafting from a young age and have decided to make it a real hobby. With the type of stressful job I have its a good release. I love to create, and I especially love to create things that others will love.
How did you get into jewelry design?
I have always loved beading, especially as a young girl. My grandmother used to take me to the craft store all the time and I just fell in love. I recently rekindled my love for jewelry making!
What makes your collection unique?
I make things that are economical, beautiful and fun. I also make custom pieces and love to design jewelry for weddings
What are your inspirations?
My inspiration is nature, colors, pretty much anything around me. I love to combine colors and shapes and textures.
How are you making a difference in your life?
Like I mentioned before, I have been under a lot of stress and having problems with anxiety and depression related to my job and jewelry design takes that all away.
What's something unusual about you that makes you “you”?
I have an ability to care for the sick and dying. I have held the hand of people who have passed away and hugged their loved ones as they tried to cope. I have learned what it is to be human and what it is to be humane.
What's the biggest struggle in running your jewelry business like a business?
Well, I do have a full time job, so that doesn't give me as much time to spend on my jewelry, as I'd like. Also, beads and jewelry making supplies can get a little costly. Especially when I go to the craft store!
