A BRIEF STORY OF WHAT YOU DO AND WHY YOU DO IT

My passion is creating beautiful, natural and affordable pieces, using mother earth’s gifts.  Mixing metals with a predominance of silver, adding textures and natural stones is my mode of creating. I strive for simplicity with a touch of sparkle.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO JEWELRY DESIGN?

Began as a hobby and got a lot of positive feedback from friends and family, so began to sell at homes of friends, etc.

What Makes Your Collection Unique?

It is slightly unconventional and appeals to an artistic eye.

What Are your inspirations?

I am inspired by femininity, simplicity, nature, music and dance.

HOW ARE YOU MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFE?

I get to be creative every day! I also love when someone wears my work and I can see the beauty it adds to another's image. It feels so great to see it come to life.

WHAT'S THE BIGGEST STRUGGLE IN RUNNING YOUR JEWELRY BUSINESS LIKE A BUSINESS? OR WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST SUCCESS IN RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS LIKE A BUSINESS?

I struggle a lot with finding the right venue and putting myself out there.  Am a bit insecure about my designs since they are very simplistic and don’t stand up to pieces done by sophisticated jewelry artists.  Yet I do see that my work is appreciated by many and so I keep going. Have been on wholesale crafts.com for 6 months and no sales. Frustrating and I’m throwing money at something that is not working for me.

A retired dance educator, I began making jewelry in 2002, studying wirework and metalsmithing. I formally began Turtle Jewelry in 2005. Festivals, online sales and fundraisers make up my business. I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to break into wholesale for the last year.
