Designer Spotlight: Sarah Russ
A BRIEF STORY OF WHAT YOU DO AND WHY YOU DO IT
I'm drawn to metalworking in simple and family inspired designs.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO JEWELRY DESIGN?
In April of 2006, I was struggling to find gifts for mother's day, I walked the aisles of the craft store until I found myself in the beads section…love at first sight! Over the years, beading turned to wire work and then metalsmithing (dabbling in enamel from time to time).
What Makes Your Collection Unique?
Though a lot of my pieces are from personal inspiration it seems that this simple, everyday style is meaningful to many people. People get to share their interpretations of the pieces…and that is what I love the MOST.
What Are your inspirations?
family, through and through
HOW ARE YOU MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFE?
Simplify! Not that I don't want to reach for the stars but I'm learning you don't have to do or have everything to get you there. There is so much more contentment in not having everything I may think that I want, instead finding peace with exactly where I'm at in the present.
What's something unusual about you that makes you “you”?
I'm a free spirited, type A personality. I completely contradict myself, haha!
WHAT'S THE BIGGEST STRUGGLE IN RUNNING YOUR JEWELRY BUSINESS LIKE A BUSINESS? OR WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST SUCCESS IN RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS LIKE A BUSINESS?
My biggest struggle has been not comparing myself to prefabricated jewelry keepsakes/businesses that are selling for cheaper.
