Designer Spotlight: Shannon Gilley
A brief story of what you do and why you do it
I create one of a kind pieces, without casting designs, using various metals and
semi-precious gemstones. I do it because every person should feel
special and being able to add to others uniqueness is a gift.
How did you get into jewelry design?
I have been “crafty” my whole life, jewelry has so many various materials that one can use to make pieces, and then you are able to display them on your body, what better way to show off art.
What makes your collection unique?
I handcraft every piece, so no 2 are the same, and if a person wants to tailor a piece, by using a different stone, or birthstone, or making it shorter or longer, I willingly will do so.
What are your inspirations?
peacefulness, nature, beautiful architecture, passionate people
How are you making a difference in your life?
In the last few years I have realized just how important it is to live happily, and I
have made that my motto.
What's something unusual about you that makes you “you”?
I am constantly rearranging the furniture in my home, it is a need toredesign, redistribute, and reuse and I can't stop myself (but secretly I love it!!).
What's the biggest struggle in running your jewelry business like a business? OR What is your biggest success in running your business like a business?
My biggest success is staying with it, even after doing wholesale shows and not doing well, eventually I began to get noticed(mostly because of repeat the show). My biggest struggle has been just learning the ins and outs of the jewelry business. And mastering using Etsy (so far from it!!).
I am fortunate to design each piece of jewelry out of my studio in Sacramento, California. I have been designing in various forms for the last 10 years.
