Designer Spotlight: Tirzah Michelyah White
What makes your collection unique?
Growing up my family would participate in art festivals and jewelry shows around the city. I remember at a young age stringing tiny beads and helping create earrings for upcoming shows. It wasn't till a few years ago that I became serious about designing jewelry. I believe we're a talented bunch and we should share our talent…and who knows…inspire someone else to tap into their own creativity.
I believe our collection is unique because we each bring a different perspective to the table. My mother grew up in Jamaica but possesses an Indian flair. My younger sister is adventurous and is not afraid to speak her mind. I myself being a visual artist bring my own sense of aesthetics to the trio. We believe anyone can find something they enjoy from our line.
What are your inspirations?
Our inspirations come from our day to day interaction with our environments as well as our emotions at the time of creation. We tap a lot into our cultural background and it can be seen in how we execute each piece.
How are you making a difference in your life?
When I'm creating I feel more in-tuned with myself. Creating allows my brain to shut off all the constant chatter of the day and get back to me.
What's something unusual about you that makes you “you”?
I think what makes me “me” is my ability to be chameleon like in regards to my appearance. Whether is a new hairstyle, i.e, aqua hair to curly locks or wardrobe changes, i.e, tomboy chic or boho hippy. How I present myself is solely based on how I feel that day.
What is your biggest success in running your business like a business?
My biggest success in running my business is the confidence that comes with it. At the end of the day I have something that is my own to nurture and develop.
About Tirzah
I am a Georgia native that creates along with my mother and younger sister. With a culturally diverse background we decided to combine our talents, experience and imagination to create wearable art.
Arunima consists of a mother (Dawn) and two daughters (Myyah and Tirzah) creating wearable art. We like to think its where experience, creativity, and passion meet and mingle. We gather inspiration from all around but our biggest influence is our cultural background….a little bit of Native American, a little bit of the islands and a little bit of Southern India. This is what inspired the name Arunima, which in Hindu means “The Red Glow of Dawn”. We couldn’t find a more fitting name to describe how we are constantly inspired by our mother to create and live a glowing life.
