Episode 527: How a Pink Skirt Sparked a Global Movement with Renee Warren

Have you ever had a vision so clear that you just couldn't ignore it? That's exactly what happened to my friend and fellow entrepreneur Renee Warren when she visualized herself on stage in a bright pink skirt, speaking to thousands of female entrepreneurs.

This week on Thrive by Design, I'm thrilled to reconnect with Renee to explore how that single powerful image evolved into The Pink Skirt Project – a movement that's redefining success for women entrepreneurs everywhere. If you're looking for inspiration to trust your intuition and step into your greatness, this episode is a must-listen!

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • [2:17] How a vivid mental image and a fashion show discovery sparked Renee's entrepreneurial vision
  • [8:42] Why Renee chose to create an intimate event experience rather than scaling too quickly
  • [12:05] The deeper meaning behind “pink skirt moments” and how they represent stepping into your greatness
  • [14:38] Renee's personal definition of success today and why it's not primarily about money
  • [17:52] How delegating effectively creates space for alignment and joy in entrepreneurship

From Dinner Conversation to Movement: The Birth of The Pink Skirt Project

Renee's journey began in 2017 at a dinner with friends discussing what success meant to them. While others shared their perspectives, Renee experienced a clairvoyant vision of herself on stage wearing a bright pink skirt, speaking to thousands of female entrepreneurs.

Two years later, at Alt Summit in Palm Springs, the first model at a fashion show walked down the runway wearing the exact pink skirt from Renee's vision. Though she couldn't afford it immediately, she eventually purchased the skirt and hung it in her closet as a symbol of something she needed to pursue, though she wasn't yet sure what.

Trusting Intuition Over Traditional Business Planning

What makes Renee's story remarkable is how she trusted her intuition despite not having a traditional business plan. As someone married to Dan Martell, author of “Buy Back Your Time” and a strategic business thinker, she faced questions about profitability and long-term plans.

Instead of forcing a conventional approach, Renee listened to her community. Women began reaching out, sharing stories about their “pink skirt moments” – achievements that brought them closer to their greatness. The concept evolved organically, with Renee trusting that the path would reveal itself with each step forward.

What is The Pink Skirt Project Today?

The Pink Skirt Project has manifested as an intimate event for 350 women taking place on June 12, 2025, in Kelowna, BC. Just two months before the event, it's already over 50% sold out and profitable – a remarkable achievement for a first-time event.

The day-long gathering features keynote speakers, panel discussions, a marketplace, coaching corners during lunch, and special networking opportunities designed for women to “step into a room completely disarmed, being vulnerable, and sharing hopes, dreams, failures and successes.”

Redefining Success on Your Own Terms

At its core, The Pink Skirt Project is about redefining success beyond financial metrics. When I asked Renee what success looks like for her today, she replied: “Success today is rest… just being surrounded by love and warmth and security and safety and trust.”

The Pink Skirt Project embraces a holistic view of achievement, celebrating women at all stages – from those closing million-dollar deals to those starting side hustles or choosing to return to being full-time moms.

Visual Storytelling as a Business Strategy

What fascinated me about Renee's approach is how she used visual storytelling to build her business. The pink skirt became more than just an item of clothing – it transformed into a powerful symbol representing:

  • A collection of women's stories
  • A parachute to catch you when you fall
  • A visual reminder of stepping into your greatness
  • A community that understands entrepreneurial challenges

This visual approach has created instant recognition and emotional connection. As Renee puts it, “Can you imagine walking into a room of 300 women wearing pink skirts? So exciting!”

Join the Pink Skirt Movement

I'm personally excited to attend The Pink Skirt Project event in June, and I invite you to join me! Renee has generously offered a discount code for my listeners: use TRACY2025 for 10% off tickets at thepinkskirtproject.com.

Whether or not you can attend the event, I encourage you to consider what your own “pink skirt moment” might be. What vision are you holding that deserves to be pursued? How might you redefine success on your own terms?

As Renee reminds us, “It's really about stepping into a room completely disarmed, about being vulnerable, about sharing your hopes and dreams and failures and successes.” That's a philosophy we can all embrace, pink skirt or not.

This blog post only scratches the surface of our rich conversation. To hear all the details, inspiration, and energy that Renee brings to this topic, be sure to listen to the full episode and if you enjoy it, please take a moment to leave a review – it helps more creative entrepreneurs discover the podcast!
