#312 How to Use Instagram REELS to Grow Your Business

Blog Featured image template

When my marketing manager told me I need to post more Reels on Instagram I felt… annoyed.

I felt stupid dancing on camera, and I thought that’s what you have to do (hint: it isn’t), so I kind of blew it off for awhile.

That was until Instagram leaked some information about how their algorithm is favoring Reels right now, even above other video content.

It’s no secret that video content crushes on social media. With this new information from Instagram, I knew it was time to dig into how to use Instagram reels to grow your jewelry business.

If you feel overwhelmed by the thought of creating short-form videos for social media, you’re probably overthinking it (like I was).

Instagram Reels content can be just like any other content you’d post to your main feed.

For example, Momentum student Kate Sydney made a successful Reel just by showing off some stunning azurite she was working with…

With this in mind, let’s dive into some tips for using Instagram Reels in your jewelry business.

Seek Out Inspiration

Not sure what to create a Reel about? The good news is there’s inspiration all around you.

Look to other creators – both inside and outside your industry/niche – for ideas and inspiration.

You should absolutely never copy another creator directly, but watching other Reels will give you a better picture of what other jewelry designers are doing, what works to get engagement, and what the latest trends are.

Here’s another fantastic example from Chelsea Farmer of Horsefeather’s Gifts. All she did was document the process of packaging orders, but it makes for engaging content…

While you’re looking for inspo, make note of what catches your attention and gets you to stop scrolling. That’s the goal.

Create Content With A Purpose

Being consistent with your content strategy is the most important part of creating Reels, but it does help to have a purpose behind your video.

Instagram Reels features like product tags and call to action buttons make it easy to promote your jewelry and send the viewer to your website.

You can also use Reels to provide value to your customers. Here’s a phenomenal example from business marketing coach Elise Darma

Elise also makes great use of hooks. She’s able to capture the viewer’s attention within the first few seconds.

This is crucial to boosting engagement on your videos, so I put together a little freebie with 31 pre-written Instagram Reels hooks that will help you out.

Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously

Above all else, keep your Reels short, keep it entertaining, and have fun with it.

It might require you to step outside your comfort zone at first. I know it did for me. But you’ll quickly realize that nobody is taking your videos too seriously, so you don’t have to either.

I think I’ve gotten much more comfortable on camera, what do you think?

One last thing, I have a challenge for you.

I challenge you to create 3 Instagram Reels this week, and tag us @flourish_thrive or use the hashtag #FTADesignersRock so we can share it and celebrate you.

And of course, listen to the full episode above for all 10 tips on how to use Instagram Reels to promote your jewelry business.
